So proud to gain my orange button today. Although I have undertaken other suicide awareness courses, the ASIST training is a world wide accredited course in suicide intervention skills. Two days, run by Healthy Cornwall, following the PAL ( Pathway for Assisting Life) format to support people with suicidal thoughts and intentions to stay safe in that moment. It is a powerful training for anybody to attend, with the aim of building community awareness, break down the shame often associated with suicide, and build and promote skills for talking about suicide and supporting a person to find a turning point from suicidal thoughts to choosing life and staying safe. It was made even more special bumping into the wonderful Hayley from Penhaligon's Friends!

The orange button is a community scheme in Cornwall promoting suicide awareness. Orange button holders have completed a certified suicide awareness training and are suicide aware and ready to listen. If you see an orange button being worn you can approach that person for help and support. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could see orange buttons been worn in every town, village, pub, cafe and beach in Cornwall!
